My Biography – Anthony Andrew Nichols

“Bebaamikamiiganang”

My name is Anthony Nichols, I grew up in Duluth and Minneapolis, Minnesota. I attended Duluth Central High School and graduated from Orr High School located in Orr, Minnesota.

I later moved to Minneapolis, where I graduated from The School of Communication Arts and received a certificate in “Applied Photography”. It was at that point when I really became interested in photography and video.

I was then accepted into a Native American video production program headed up by Juanita Espinoza, (Director-Native Arts Circle).  It was in that program where I learned how to work video cameras and edit video tape. I also worked in a simliar capacity in a program called “Public Access Community Television”, located in Duluth, Minnesota. It was in those 2 capacities where both of my productions were aired on public access cable television.

Also noted, I have been a disc jockey at 2 night clubs in Minneapolis, Minnesota for a little over a year.  There, I introduced various musical talent where these local musicians later went on to become stars in the mainstream.  Some of which included: Mazarati, Kings English and Soul Asylum.

I have also done some minimial acting at St. Thomas College in St. Paul, Minnesota.  I performed in front of about 100 people on a 360 degree audience stage.  This performance was filmed lived by   three local major news channels and was also filmed live by Chris Spotted Eagle Productions.  It was during this time where I had the desire to get in front of the camera and “Go Live!”

Recently, my interactions have been with 2 Native American Radio Stations, KOJB 90.1 FM, Cass Lake, Minnesota on the Leech Lake Reservation and also KBFT FM 89.9, Nett Lake, Minnesota from the Bois Forte Reservation. My most recent live DJ experience was at the university I attend known as “FM90” or KBSB FM 89.7, at Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minnesota.

I also want to include that I have a beautiful 10 year daughter that I have raised (single parent) most of her entire life.  She dances traditional and jingle dress styles in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

In closing, I believe this program will be beneficial to my future goals, my people, myself, the public in general, and most importantly my daughter. I will be the first person to start a FM radio station on the Red Lake Reservation. I have a lot of professional backing in my goal.
